Miller Court System & Jurisdictions

Several judicial instances operate in Miller County, each handling specific categories of cases.

Circuit Court is the county's general jurisdiction court. It handles serious criminal offenses (felonies), large civil claims, probate cases (the legal process of settling a deceased person's estate), as well as family matters: divorces, child custody, and alimony. If the amount of a civil claim exceeds the jurisdictional threshold of the District Court, the case is transferred here.

District Court operates differently. It handles:

  • Minor criminal offenses (misdemeanors)
  • Traffic violations
  • Civil claims up to a legally established limit
  • Small claims cases — up to $5,000
  • Preliminary hearings in criminal cases

Additionally, the District Court handles cases related to violations of city ordinances. Fines for speeding or charges of petty theft usually start here.

The administrative center of Miller County is the city of Texarkana. Both courts are located in the Miller County Courthouse building:

Miller Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

To find out which hearings are scheduled for today, tomorrow, or the week, the fastest way is to use the online tools of the Arkansas Judiciary.

  1. Go to the ARCourts case search page.
  2. Enter the party's name or case number.
  3. In the search results, review the scheduled hearing dates and case status.

The Search ARCourts system may also contain links to documents filed in the case, depending on the case type and the court's decision on public access. Some records may be restricted according to Arkansas privacy laws.

If you cannot find the necessary information online, call the Circuit Court or District Court clerk's office and inquire about the schedule of a specific judge's hearings. The office can usually confirm the time and date of the next session.

How to Get a Copy of a Miller Court Document

There are three ways to obtain a copy of a court document in Miller County.

Online

Through Search ARCourts, some documents are available for viewing and downloading for free. However, not all case materials are published electronically, and a certified copy cannot be obtained through the portal.

In Person

Contact the Circuit Clerk's office in the courthouse. The clerk issues both regular and certified copies. A certified copy has the court's official seal and the clerk's signature — this is usually required by other institutions, employers, or attorneys as proof of a court decision.

By Mail

Send a written request specifying the case number, parties' names, and the type of document needed. Include payment in the form of a money order. The address for mail requests is:

Miller County Circuit Clerk
400 Laurel StreetTexarkana, AR 71854

Note: Records in juvenile cases, adoption cases, and some family cases are usually closed to public access. Before requesting, confirm with the clerk whether the document is public.

Miller Court Records Fees & Payment

The fee amount is determined by the administrative rules of the Arkansas courts and local ordinances. The approximate rates are listed below — we recommend confirming the exact amounts directly with the clerk's office, as they may change.

ServiceApproximate Cost
Court record search (by name)$6.00 per name
Regular document copy$0.50 per page
Certified document copy$5.00 per document + copying cost

The office accepts payment in cash and money orders. It is advisable to confirm in advance by phone whether credit or debit card payments are accepted. For mail requests, personal checks are sometimes not accepted — it is more reliable to use a money order.

To search for information about inmates in state correctional facilities, you can use the Arkansas Department of Corrections inmate search. This is a separate resource, not connected with the court clerk's office, but it can be useful for tracking the status of a convicted person after sentencing.
